Data-Driven Personal Wellness

Description: Blood pressure, resting heart rate, blood glucose, heart rate variability, weight, sleep quality, respiratory rate, exercise frequency and intensity, body temperature, blood oxygen level…if that list makes you twitch, you are not alone. We all “know” what to do when it comes to personal health and wellness: eat right, exercise, and get good sleep. If it were that easy, we would all be doing it. So how can we get closer to doing what we know is “right”? Where does it make sense to start? In our daily work, we know that what gets measured gets done. As with so many other things in our work in personal lives, there is data that can help us plan and implement. But what is the best way to collect that data? Apple Watch, FitBit, Oura Ring, continuous blood glucose monitoring, steps – the list is endless. In this session we will explore several of the major markers of health, ways to measure them and get data, and make plans to do better. Benefit from the experiences of a chronic self-experimenter, and learn about some of the options out there for quantifying and optimizing health and wellness.

Let’s (Not) Freak Out About A.I.

Description: People have been thinking and now talking about artificial intelligence for a while. ChatGPT and other large language models have made it a little more real for educators. In this interactive workshop we will talk about trends in A.I. related to K-12. We will also get into the potential opportunities for and threats to the way we do business. Beyond the brief overview of the A.I. landscape in K-12, this conversation will focus on the implications for policy and practices, not the technology behind how A.I. works.
